Work Experience: Sheffield Fright Night – 28/10/12

My eagerly anticipated second work experience (for semester 1) took place over the Halloween period and was based in Sheffield City Centre for a company called Smiffys. Not only are they fancy dress experts but they provide leisure and entertainment products too. They are also now introducing ‘Smiffy’s Make-Up FX’ which is a fantastic new range of aqua based face and body paints. Smiffy’s provided all products for this event which was greatly appreciated but more importantly enabled me to try out new products!

The Fright Night Carnival is an annual event which takes place on the Sunday before Halloween. From street entertainment, music, fun-fairs and fancy dress catwalk, there is plenty to see and do! Here are some images of how it looked when I first arrived.

To start the night off I assisted in the transformation of a group of dancers performing a flash mob into scary vampires using face paints and artificial blood.

After this I, along with some other makeup artists, assisted Smiffy’s set up a makeup station for us all to use. From half past 3 until half past 8, we were transforming face after face, anything from Batman to Vampires! It was all fantastic fun and the atmosphere was brilliant despite Jack Frost trying to freeze me to death 😦 haha.) I have various images below showing some of the makeup styles.
